The authors have studied conditions under which select kinds of bacteria can utilize oxidation products of the following coal substances: lignite from the Višňová mine, coal slurry and "Kapucín" brown coal. In the first part of research works selected bacteria strains were tested to ascertain their growth capacity and ability to degrade biologically dissolved organic matter. The article deals further with a searching of the optimum concentration of oxidation products giving maximum growth yield as well as an efficient biological degradation with minimum consumption of technological water. Stimulative effects of the starter addition and thinning of inhibiting components are compared with effects of mere thinning upon the multiplication of bacteria and degradation rate of organic matter.
